Last month we featured a warm, tasty gingerbread cookie recipe on our blog that’s easy to make and perfect for the holidays. Continue the wintery spirit by pairing the cookies with a festive beverage. For a simple, yet delicious easy eggnog recipe from Food Network’s Alton Brown, follow these directions:

Ingredients:

  • Egg yolks (4)
  • Sugar (1/3 cup) plus 1 tablespoon
  • Whole milk (1 pint)
  • Heavy cream (1 cup)
  • Bourbon (3 ounces)
  • Grated nutmeg (1 teaspoon)
  • Egg whites (4)

Next Steps

For cooked eggnog, beat the egg yolks and add the 1/3 cup of sugar. Beat until the yolks and sugar are completely mixed. Leave this to the side for now, and set a medium-sized sauce pan over high heat. In the sauce pan, bring together the milk, heavy cream and teaspoon of nutmeg to a light boil. Keep an eye on this and stir every few minutes to ensure consistency and to maintain the temperature.

Take the sauce pan off the heat and slowly combine with the egg yolk and sugar mixture.  Pour all contents into medium-sized pot, gently stir and allow the mixture to reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Take the mixture off the heat and completely work in the bourbon. Next, allow your eggnog to chill in the refrigerator. In a mixing bowl, add beaten whites to your eggnog plus an additional tablespoon of sugar. Whisk together, serve and enjoy your homemade eggnog!
